Jenna Lyons Is Selling Her Clothes on the Internet

As the former president and creative director of J. Crew and living embodiment of the J.Crew woman, Jenna Lyons cultivated a trademark style that pairs the brand's preppy aesthetic with bold prints and vibrant colors. Leopard and seersucker! Pink lipstick and houndstooth!
Lyons left her post at J. Crew in April of last year. She'd been with the company for a staggering 27 years. After all those years she'd amassed quite the closet. And now she's parting with some of her most treasured pieces—a mix of J.Crew classics and designer wares—on the fashion industry's favorite resale site, TheRealReal.
"I have lived and breathed clothes for the past 31 years," Lyons said of the clothes she's selling. "Four of them in college, 27 with J.Crew and Madewell. I love clothes. I’ve collected for years."
Still, it was time to part with them.
"Each piece represents a memory, an event marked," she continued. "I found myself holding on to the clothes for the meaning and not spending enough time actually wearing them. My body has changed 😩, my mind has changed, and it seemed that this was a good time in my life as I think about next steps—to let someone else love them."
That and her closet was just due for a serious clean out. "And then there is the simple fact that my dear friend Sarah Clary came over, opened her eyes wide and burst into hysterical laughter," Lyons says. "Then she muttered 'Gurrrrrrl , you got to sell some of this shit.' Thanks Sarah. I love you so much." That's a good friend.
